Oxford Travel Portion

Overview

Georgia Tech’s Oxford Program takes place every summer and is composed of two sections: Travel Portion & In-Residence.  Students wishing to participate on the program (Travel Portion + In-Residence) should select "Oxford Summer Program" when applying on OIE's website.  Students must participate in both the Travel Portion and the In-Residence Portion. Participating in the Travel Portion only or In-Residence only is not currently an option.

During the first half of the program, students journey by bus to multiple European cities.  Each group consists of 55 students, 2 professors and 1 Group Leaders.  Students take 2 courses during this portion of the program; they attend lectures and visit numerous sites that enhance and contribute to their courses.  After spending 1 week studying in Atlanta and 5 weeks learning on the road, students complete their  travel portion coursework and head for Oxford, England for the second portion of the program.

Once accepted to the program, you will be given the opportunity to notify Oxford Program Staff of your housing needs. If you require pre-departure housing in Atlanta and would like to be put in touch with other students to split the cost, you will notify the program of this via Atlas once spring semester has commenced.

Program Costs

Overview

There are 4 main costs associated with participation in the Oxford Program:

  • Program Charge
  • Tuition
  • Airfare
  • Personal Expenses

Remember, it’s never too early to start planning your budget or applying for scholarships.

*Students who choose not to participate in the program after submitting an application will be responsible for paying certain fees, depending on the date of cancellation. Refer to the cancellation policy for full details.

*All payments should be made directly to the Bursar's Office. For a complete listing of payment options, please click here.

Note: Costs are subject to change.

Program Charge

  • Total Program Charge: $13,000
    • The Program Charge covers pre-arranged expenses such as housing, city-to city transportation, many but not all meals, museum and concert entrance fees, and health insurance.

The Program Charge is paid in 3 Separate Installments: A $500 deposit paid as part of the initial application process. This deposit is the first installment to the total program charge although students are not considered as completed applicants before paying this fee and completing all other application steps. Once accepted, the remaining Program Charge costs will be paid in two separate installments and will be due during the Spring semester. Students who wish to apply financial aid to Program Charge payments may request to defer the Program Charge payment to the Summer 2024 Financial Aid disbursement deadline. Please note that if any amount of expected financial aid is not awarded, the student is still responsible in full for program charge payments.

Airfare

  • 2025 Group Flight Cost: TBA

All students participating in the Oxford Program will have the option to participate in the group flight. However, students are not required to fly with the group. Students who would like to participate should indicate so on the information to be turned in after acceptance. The group flight will include a round trip ticket from Atlanta to the first city on the travel group itinerary, and from London back to Atlanta. This is done to ensure that students are not penalized for being placed in a group with a more expensive flight itinerary. Once a student has selected “YES” to the group flight option, all tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Tuition

All students will pay regular in State tuition.  Those receiving HOPE scholarship can apply it to tuition while studying abroad. All students are required to pay the Institute's regular technology fee and USG Institutional Fee.

Personal Expenses
Students often wonder what additional expenses they will incur while taking part in this program. Below is a table developed with several previous participants outlining some items not covered by the program charge and their respective costs. This table is meant as an estimate only and not a definitive list of expenses. Individual students may spend more or less on any or all of these items. Please note this list was created using particular exchange rates for both the British Pound and the Euro. Please visit the universal currency converter for the most current exchange rates.

Scholarships

The Office of International Education (OIE) administers and awards $50,000+ in study abroad scholarship funding each year. OIE also serves as a resource for scholarships administered by other GT departments, national scholarship and fellowship awards, and other non-GT funding. We encourage you to review and utilize the information below, attend an information session, and schedule an advising appointment with our OIE Scholarships Advisor.

As you begin the process of funding your study abroad experience, we encourage you to:

  1. Plan ahead, 6-12 months in advance of your program departure date
  2. Attend a Study Abroad Scholarships Information Session
  3. Research Georgia Tech and non-Georgia Tech scholarship opportunities

Program Cancellation Policy

Please review the program's full cancellation policy below:

Students who choose not to participate in the program (for any reason, including health emergencies or loss of job in the family) after being accepted into the program will be subject to the following fee schedule to cover expenses paid on your behalf:

  • Students canceling before Jan. 1st will lose their $500 deposit.
  • Students canceling on or after Jan. 1st will lose their $500 deposit and must pay 50% of the program charge.
  • Students canceling on or after Feb. 1st must pay 100% of the program charge.
    • All group airline tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable after Feb. 15th. (Although return dates may be altered for a fee by the airline, destinations may not be changed.

Georgia Tech will determine a date to assess program viability based on the current information available and timing of vendor pre-payments. Georgia Tech will require each program to make a first round of decisions on cancellations before non-refundable program funds are due to vendors. Cancellation before non-refundable funds are due will result in students not losing money paid to their program. After paying non-refundable program expenses to vendors, the standard Georgia Tech study abroad cancellation policy will apply. This policy states that should the program cancel due to circumstances beyond Georgia Tech’s control, only those funds recovered from vendors may be returned to students. Also, Georgia Tech cannot refund personal expenses incurred by students such as costs for visas, airfare, and other items not included in the program charge.

Georgia Tech reserves the right to alter (including a change to program fees) or cancel this program due to low enrollment, unavailability of a professor to teach a planned course, or other unforeseen circumstances. If Georgia Tech cancels the entire program before departure for reasons within its control, all fees paid by participants will be refunded. If Georgia Tech cancels the program before departure or while the program is in progress for reasons beyond its control, such as political unrest or danger to participants’ safety, only those fees that Georgia Tech is able to have refunded by service providers will be returned to participants.
